The following is information reported to us on Ozark veterans who have passed. This information is not comprehensive. A fire in 1973 destroyed approximately 16-18 million Official Military Personnel Files (OMPF). Please see the explanation here. We have done our best in the past to assist in finding information on Ozark servicemen who are no longer with us. We regret that this has become a task that we can no longer perform, as we just don’t have the resources to do so. We suggest that you revisit our home page and go to the Military Research section. We thank you for your understanding regarding this matter.

Note: if you have your own information on a deceased Ozark, feel free to submit that using the Notification Form link below.

Dad, to say you were an outstanding soldier is a glaring understatement. Enlisting at the age of 19, you learned fast, worked hard, got promoted to Staff Sergeant, saved your best friends life, saved your platoon from ambush, earned the Silver Star Medal and, lest we forget, experienced the unspeakable horrors that war all too readily offers up. Yet somehow you managed to return home, sanity intact, a decorated war hero in the truest sense of the word. We the people will be forever in your debt. Rest in peace.

He was so proud of being a member of the Ozark Division, but as with most old soldiers, he never talked much about it. He did enroll all of his 4 sons in the 102d 'society' where we received the newsletters until they were ceased a couple of years ago. Regardless, he credits his Army service and experiences during the war with him becoming the person he was. I can brag about my dad until the crows come home, but so can every other son who writes to you. Bottom line is that I just want him acknowledged on this web site - more info on him can be found on the Edwards Funeral Home, Fort Smith Arkansas, web site.
